 Sunday 11th of Mar Cheshvan

Yahrzeit of our matriarch Rochel Imeinu. It’s known what Yaakov told his son Yoseph… “that it was by Divine command that I buried her there so that she should be a help for her children when Nebuzaradan [of Babylon] will exile them and they will pass by there. Then Rachel will come out upon her grave and weep and plead for mercy for them, as it is written (Jeremiah 31:14–16): “A voice is heard in Ramah, lamentation, and bitter weeping: Rachel is weeping for her children and refuses to be comforted for her children because they are away. And G‑d will answer her: Restrain your voice from weeping, and your eyes from tears; for your work will be rewarded, says G‑d; and they will return from the land of the enemy. There is hope for your future . . . that your children will return to their own borders” (Rashi’s commentary on this verse). May we merit the Geula Now

Yahrzeit of R. Menachem Nachum of Chernobyl, student of the Baal Shem Tov and the Mezeritcher Magid, author of Meor Einayim, 5558 [1797]. His grandson, R. Yaakov Yisroel, married the Mitteler Rebbe's daughter. It is told that the Alter Rebbe picked Reb Yaakov Yisroel to marry his granddaughter when he was yet in his baby crib in his grandfather’s house.

Yahrzeit of R. Shneur Zalman Aharon, son of the Rebbe MaHaRaSh, 5669 [1908]. The Frierdiker Rebbe said about his uncle, Reb Zalman Aharon, that he was a man of Baal Midos Tovos (a person with good character traits) and a person with an extraordinarily strong heart. Personally, he went through many tough times and suffered a great deal. Nevertheless, there was always a smile on his face. He never shed a tear for himself. But for the pain of another would touch him very deeply, the smile would fade, his face would sadden, his eyes would fill with tears, and he would do everything to help the person in distress.

Shabbos 3rd of Cheshvan Yahrzeit of holy Tzadik Reb Yisroel of Ruzhyn

[The Rebbe MaHaRaSh related, "When I was eight, I went in on Shabbos to see my father, the Tzemach Tzedek. He was sitting and studying the Zohar. He closed it and said, "When the holy Tzadik of Rizhyn says Tehilim, the entire world is open before him, and in the Tehilim of Shabbos, he sees the source of all the matters of the world and can correct them in their source, and thus the decree is rejected and canceled. And I agree with the advice of the holy Tzadik of Rizhyn." And this was the story: There was great love between the Tzemach Tzedek and R. Yisroel of Rizhyn. Once there was a great general crisis, and the Tzemach Tzedek sent the Gaon, Tzadik, and Chasid, R. Eizik HaLevi Epstein of Homel, to R. Yisroel of Rizhyn to consult and plan with him about annulling the decree. When R. Eizik HaLevi came to the Ruzhyner, he received him very graciously and said: "We'll say a few chapters of Tehilim, HaShem Yisborach will light up the gates of light, and we'll see what happens." (Letter of the previous Lubavitcher Rebbe, Kovetz Michtavim, 1)

The power of Tehilim is enormous. Now more than ever, we should recite chapters of Tehilim as often as we can. For the safety of Eretz Yisroel and Yidden all over.

Special Announcements:

Bais Levi Yitzchak wants to thank again all those that participated, davened, made pledges, and made the month of Tishrei a meaningful experience for all.

It is because of your participation and generosity that we continue to grow and build our community!!

May Hashem repay and bless every one of you with an abundance of healthy, wealthy, happy, joyful, nachas year with the immediate Geula Now Amen.

“. . . It’s known the saying of the Rebbeim that the way we set ourselves up on Shabbos Bereishis so goes the entire year” [Likutei Sichos: Vol. 1, p. 1]

This Shabbos is Shabbos Bereishis and Shabbos Mevorchim Marcheshvan.

We say the Sefer Tehilim before Shacharis and bless the month. We do not say “Av Harachamim” at Shacharis or “Tzidkosecha” at Mincha.

This Shabbos is -- "Shabbos of Beginning" -- the first Shabbos of the annual Torah reading cycle, on which the Torah section of Bereishis ("In the Beginning") is read.

The weekly Torah reading defines the Jewish week, serving as a guide and point of reference for the week's events, deeds, and decisions; Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi called this "living with the times." Hence, the theme and tone of this week is one of beginning and renewal, as we launch into yet another cycle of Torah life and the daily Chita’s, study of Chumash, Tehilim and Tanya.

“Studying a parsha of Chumash with Rashi every day (Sunday until Sheini, Monday until Shelishi, etc.), saying Tehilim every day and the entire Tehilim on Shabbos Mevorchim - be scrupulous about all of these. It is crucial for you, for your children, and your children's children.” (Hayom Yom 25th Shevat)

A Special Thank You

We would like to recognize and express our greatest appreciation to Yoni Biston, as well as all those who helped set up the kiddushim throughout Yom Tov and ensured they ran smoothly. Thank You; You should be blessed with all blessings, and we should dance at your wedding this year.

“. . . The Rebbe RaShaB said “We must treasure the forty-eight hours of Shemini Atzeres and Simchas Torah very much; in every moment we can gather barrels and kegs of physical and spiritual blessings. And this is through the dancing.” [Sefer Hamaamarim, 5711 p.79]

We should be B’Simcha and merit the ultimate Simcha of Geula Now

Sunday night Hoshana Rabba

We say the whole Chumash Devorim tonight (any time) before Tehilim

1:00am Tehilim

The world is judged for water on Sukkahs, ending on Hosanna Rabba.  The Zohar describes it as a Judgment Day like Yom Kippur: The judgment of Yom Kippur is sealed; the parchments with the decrees are handed to the angels to deliver. Thus, it has special importance as a day of Tefillah and Teshuvah. It is customary to stay up the night of Hoshana Raba and read Sefer Devarim. After midnight, we say Sefer Tehilim with the Yehi Ratzon for Hosanna Raba in back of Tehilim. There is a custom for the Gabbai to distribute apples and honey. We eat them after Tehilim in the Sukkah

Monday Hoshana Rabba

9:30 am Shacharis

We go around the bimmah 7 times, and then we take the bundle of 5 Aravo’s and strike the floor 5 times with them. It is the last day for benching Lulav and Esrog.

5:45pm Mincha / Farbrengen

6:56pm Maariv/Yom Tov Ends

The following is what the Rebbe said about the upcoming days

"...The time of Simchas Torah, particularly before Hakofos, was always an auspicious time for my sainted father-in-law, the Rebbe….  As such, also those who have several times asked for a particular Brocha, for a need that has yet to be fulfilled, may now obtain its fulfillment.

Therefore, let them take mashkeh, and say "L’Chaim" to the Rebbe, and take upon themselves a particular commitment to strengthen their ties with him, and through this, all matters will be achieved. [From a Sicha of Simchas Torah 5711]

“. . . My father (the Rebbe Rashab) said, “On Simchas Torah, every minute is a year.”  [Sefer Hasichos 5702, p. 9]

On Simchas Torah all, the gates of heaven are open, the gates of light, blessing, success, and all other gates. And one receives them through Torah. [Sefer Hasichos 5709, p. 59]

Sukkos Time of Joy

Chassidus explains that “rejoicings” refers to “Yisroel rejoices in their Maker” [Tehillim, 149:2] and “HaShem rejoices in His works” Tehillim, 104:31].  Since Sukkos is the “Season of our Rejoicings” not the “Season of Yisroel rejoicing in their Maker” or “HaShem rejoices in His works”, both rejoicings are united together every moment of Sukkos.

SIMCHAS BEIS HASHO’EIVAH

“ . . . . Though it’s a Mitzvah to rejoice in all the festivals, there was an additional celebration in the Temple on the festival of Sukkos . . . On the eve of the festival's first day, they set up a place in the Temple for women [to watch] from above and men from below so they wouldn’t intermingle.

The celebration would begin the night after the first day of the festival. Similarly, on each day of Chol Hamoed, after offering the daily afternoon sacrifice, they would begin to celebrate for the rest of the day and throughout the night.

. . . The flute would be sounded, and songs played on the harp, lute, and cymbals . . . Each person would play the instrument he knew. Those who could sing would sing. They would dance and clap their hands, letting loose and whistling, each in the manner he knew. They would say words of song and praise.

“Whoever did not see Simchas Beis HaSho’eivah has never seen rejoicing in his life! . . . There were golden menorahs . . . There was not a courtyard in Jerusalem that wasn’t illuminated with the light of Beis HaSho’eivah

"...The custom of the Rebbe the Tzemach Tzedek was that after Maariv of the second night, he would begin to arrange Farbrengens with singing and dancing. He would dance so hard that even the young men couldn't keep up with him." [Sefer HaSichos, 5703, p. 10]

The Rebbe emphasized that participation in Simchas Bais Hoshoeva is for all Jews. Since it doesn’t have the stature it had in the Beis Hamikdash, everybody can and must participate. Not only through seeing and hearing but also with actual Simchah and dancing, every single Jew and even children. [Maayanei Hayeshua, p. 44]

Rabbi Mendel Lerman would like to invite everyone to a Farbrengen every night of Sukkah @ 695 Montgomery Street. The Sukkah is in the back of the house.

Sunday 13th of Tishrei

Yahrzeit of our holy Master and Teacher, R. Shmuel, “the Rebbe MaHaRaSh”, 5643 (1882). “...His life and work are best summarized by his saying, “The world says if you can’t go under an obstacle, you have to go over, and I say —go over in the first place.” The simple meaning of this is that in Torah and Mitzvas we have to “go over in the first place”: not make calculations, and when that’s not enough, and you have to go above measure and limit, you go “over” —the Rebbe MaHaRaSh said “go over in the first place”, in a way that’s above calculations and limits

Yom Kippur

The Bais Levi Yitzchak Shul wishes all our friends and all of

 Israel, a Gemar Chasima Tova!

May we all be, signed and sealed with complete Health, Wealth, Happiness, Joy, etc., Geulah Now Amen

Wednesday Erev Yom Kippur

8:00am   Shacharis – At Shacharis, we do not say Mizmar Lisodah, Tachnun or Avinu Malkeinu. (Mizmar Lisodah is in place of the Korban Toda, which was not brought Erev Yom Kippur.)

Lekach

It is customary to ask friends for Lekach (honey cake) and eat it. One reason for this custom is that, were it decreed upon us, Chas Vishalom, to depend on the “gifts of flesh and blood”, we discharge our “obligation” with this. . .. My father-in-law, the Rebbe told: 'The Baal Shem Tov would say that giving Lekach (honey cake) on Erev Yom Kippur is an ancient custom, and when he gave it he would say, I give you Lekach, and may HaShem give you a good year, and my father [the Rebbe RaShaB] would add, ‘a sweet year’… [Sicha, Erev Yom Kippur, 5711]

Tzedakah

It is customary to give charity generously and liberally on the day before Yom Kippur, for Tzedakah is a great source of merit and serves as protection against harsh decrees.

Festive Meals

It is a Mitzvah to eat and drink on Erev Yom Kippur as if for two days. It is forbidden to fast. We eat two full meals for which we wash and eat Challah dipped in honey. One meal is before Mincha; Seudah Hamafsekes is after. We eat Kreplach. We do not eat eggs on Erev Yom Kippur.

Malkus (Lashes) & Mikvah

We try to go to the Mikvah 3 time 1st- before Shacharis 2nd- before Mincha and after the first meal. (3rd after Seudah Hamafsekes before sundown.)

Before Mikvah, we have the custom of Malkos: receiving thirty-nine symbolic “lashes” to remember the need for Teshuvah. Both the one giving and getting Malkos say the thirteen words of “VeHu Rachum” three times, for thirty-nine. Yom Kippur does not atone for sins against a fellow man, unless we appease him. If we have sinned against others, even if only in words, we are obliged to appease them. We must go personally to them. The injured party should forgive them willingly and wholeheartedly.

Mincha

3:15pm Mincha @ Bais Levi Yitzchak

We wear Yom Tov clothes to Mincha. We give a lot of Tzedakah before Mincha. At the end of the Amidah, before “Elokai Nitzor” we say Viduy (see Siddur) in the silent Amidah, but not in the Repetition. We do not say Tachnun (or Avinu Malkeinu). After Mincha, we eat the final meal before the fast.

Seuda Hamafsekes (Final meal before fast) followed by Mikvah

We eat only easily digestible food, such as boiled chicken or soup. We do not eat or drink spicy or salty foods. Finish the meal while it is still daytime.

If you finish quite early and intend to eat or drink before the fast, make a declaration (or at least have in mind) before Birchas HaMazon that you are not yet beginning the fast.

Parents bless their children before going to Kol Nidrei.

Light a Yahrzeit candle, put it in a safe place to ensure it is not put out, for it needs to be lit until Motzaei Yom Kippur for Havdalah

Those saying Yizkor should light a Yahrzeit candle (Ner Neshama) at home for each parent who passed away.

Every man (married or single) brings a 24-hour candle (Lebediker Licht) to shul, to light before Yom Kippur

Wednesday Night Yom Kippur Schedule (10-1-2025)

6:19pm Candle lighting in Crown Heights
6:19pm Fast begins.

Before Kol Nidrei, we say quietly Al Chait and the next 8 chapters of Tehillim
6:37pm Kol Nidrei

Thursday Yom Kippur (10-2-2025)
10:00am Shacharis Yom Kippur
5:10pm   Mincha
7:17pm   Maariv* – Fast Ends*- followed by break the fast

Break the fast sponsored by Mr. & Mrs. Moshe W. and Rebecca Bolinsky in honor of Rebecca’s birthday. Mazal Tov, Mazal Tov, you should have a Gemar Chasima Tova Shenas Hatzlacha Ubracha

After Maariv:

*Maariv is davened with the Talis and the Kittel. Instead of putting the Talis over our head, we wear our hat.

* We wish one another Gut Yom Tov.

* Netilas Yoda’im: we wash our hands as is done in the morning, without a Bracha.

* Havdalah is said while wearing a Talis and Kittel. We make the Brachos for the wine and the Candle. For the Bracha of "האש מאורי בורא" one should use the candle that has been lit throughout Yom Kippur.

* One can then wash up, put on leather shoes, and say Kiddush Levana.

* By the Seuda after the fast, the Challah is dipped in honey, and the meal is served בהרחבה (in abundance).

* One should begin work on the Sukkah or at least discuss it.

* We do not say Tachanun till the end of the month of Tishrei.

Wishing everyone a Gemar Chasima Tova Geula Now

Special Announcements:

On behalf of Bais Levi Yitzchak shul we thank all those who came and davened, made pledges, and made Rosh Hashanah a meaningful Yom Tov. Everyone should be blessed with A Gemar Chasima Tova.  May we all be signed and sealed in the book of life, Health, Wealth, and prosperity Geula Now Amen.

Shabbos Shuvah

The Shabbos between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur is called Shabbos Shuvah, "Shabbos of Return." The name derives from the Haftarah (reading from the prophets) for this Shabbos, which opens with the words (Hosea 14:2), "Return O Israel unto the L-rd your G-d..." Occurring in the "Ten Days of Repentance" (see "Laws & Customs" for Tishrei); it is a most auspicious time to rectify the failings and missed opportunities of the past and positively influence the coming year.

The master Kabbalist Rabbi Isaac Luria ("Ari") taught that the seven days between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur (which will always include one Sunday, one Monday, etc.) correspond to the seven days of the week. The Sunday between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur includes within itself all Sundays of the year; the Monday embodies all Mondays, and so on. Shabbat Shuvah is thus the archetypal Shabbat -- the juncture in time at which we are empowered to influence every Shabbat of our year.

Sunday Vov Tishrei - Yahrzeit of Rebbetzin Chana

Rebbetzin Chana was born on 28th Tevet 1880, in Nikolayev, Ukraine, to Rabbi Meir Shlomo and Rachel Yanovsky. She was the eldest of four children: she had two sisters, Gittel and Ettel, and a younger brother, Yisroel Leib, who passed away as a youth. Rabbi Meir Shlomo was the chief rabbi of Nikolayev; indeed, the Yanovsky family was known as a prestigious rabbinical family of scholars and leaders.

In 1900, at the age of 20, Rebbetzin Chana married Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Schneerson. The great-grandson of Rabbi Menachem Mendel, the “Tzemach Tzedek” (the third of the Chabad-Lubavitcher Rebbe’s), Rabbi Levi Yitzchak a renowned scholar and a brilliant Kabbalist. Rabbi Shalom DovBer Schneerson, the fifth Lubavitcher Rebbe, had suggested the match. The wedding took place on the 13th of Sivan, in Nikolayev.

Rebbetzin Chana had three sons: our Rebbe, DovBer and Yisroel Aryeh Leib.

Her eldest son, our Rebbe, was born on the 11th of Nissan 1902. On that day Rabbi Shalom DovBer sent six telegrams to the child’s father, Rabbi Levi Yitzchak, each with blessings and various instructions.

Before nursing her son, Rebbetzin Chana would wash her hands in the ritual manner, and do the same for her infant. She had a yarmulke and tzitzit made for him and took great care to raise her son—who would eventually become the seventh Lubavitcher Rebbe—in a holy environment.

Bais Levi Yitzchak Shul wishes all our friends and all.

Israel a Gemar Chasima Tova!

May we all be signed and sealed with complete Health, Wealth, Happiness, Joy, etc.  Geula Now Amen

Praising the Jews

The Rebbe Maharash once remarked to his son the Rebbe Rashab, “Hundreds of angels wait on Rosh Hashanah for a Jew to praise another Jew because they (the angels) know that G-d desires the praise of a Jew even more than the prayers of the righteous.”

Precious Time

The minutes and hours of Rosh Hashanah are extremely precious and should not be wasted. This is a time that is more elevated than the rest of the year, both in quantity and quality, in the same way, the brain is superior to the other limbs of the body.

It is appropriate to recite Tehillim during one’s spare time on Rosh Hashanah. Some endeavor to complete the entire Tehillim twice.

The number of chapters recited (300) is then the numerical value.

 (gematria) of kaper (atone).

During the 48 hours of Rosh Hashanah, it is customary to avoid idle talk and daytime sleep and spend every available moment reciting chapters of Tehilim.

Now is the best time to give Tzedakah, to fulfill all those outstanding pledges.

Shabbos 27th Elul is Shabbos Mevorchim, the last Shabbos of the year

The power of saying Tehilim - last Shabbos of the year

The power of saying Tehilim - Hayom Yom 24th of Shevat

Studying a passage of Chumash every day with the commentary of Rashi (reading the first Aliyah of the coming Shabbos on Sunday, the second on Monday, and so on), reciting [the daily bracket of chapters of] Tehilim every day, reciting the entire Book of Tehilim on Shabbos Mevorchim — these things must be carefully observed. Doing so impacts the individual, his children, and his grandchildren.

Hashem himself blesses this month, Hayom Yom 25th Elul

The Alter Rebbe related: When I was in Mezritch I heard from my Rebbe, the Maggid, in the name of the Baal Shem Tov: The seventh month (Tishrei), first of the months of the year, is blessed by G‑d Himself, on Shabbos Mevorchim - last Shabbos in the month of Elul. With this power, Israel blesses the other months eleven times a year.

It is written, Atem Nitzovim Hayom, "You stand this day." This day refers to Rosh Hashana which is the day of Judgment (as it is written, "The day came," which Targum renders, the day of the great judgment came). Yet you remain standing firmly upright (Nitzovim), meaning you will be vindicated in judgment.

On the Shabbos preceding Rosh Hashana, the last Shabbos in Elul, we read the parsha of Atem Nitzovim, which is G‑d's blessing on the Shabbos of blessing the seventh month (Shabbat Mevorchim). That seventh month (Tishrei) is itself sated - and in turn satiates all Israel - with an abundance of good for the duration of the (coming) year."

Yahrtzeit of R. Yechiel Michel of Zlotchov, student of the Ba’al Shem Tov, 5546 [1786]. It is known that on the Histalkus of the Ba’al Shem Tov, Shavuos 5520, 1760, the Ba’al Shem Tov called R. Yechiel Michel and told him to sing his famous Nigun. The Ba’al Shem Tov said I promise that anyone who’ll sing this Nigun, of great awakening of mercy, with an awakening of Teshuvah, I will hear it in any place I may be (in Gan Eden) and I will join him in the singing and awaken great mercy on the Ba’al teshuvah that sings it. This is accepted as the Nigun of Hisorerus Rachamim Rabim.

Sunday 28th Elul

Yahrtzeit of R. Shalom Roke’ach of Belz, founder of Belz Chassidus, 5615 [1855]. R’ Chitrik writes in Volume 3 of Reshimas Devarim, one time the Rebbe MaHaRaSh went to Belz, and he was dressed as a businessman. He wanted to see the Tzaddik R’ Shalom of Belz. He sat in the far corner of the shul, where he could observe. When R’ Shalom came in, it was very hard for him to see, his attendant was taking him to the head table, he pulled away and said he smells a very fine odor; he went to the Rebbe MaHaRaSh, and said to him, “from me you cannot hide”. He asked him how his father, the Rebbe, the Tzemach Tzedek is doing. Later he gave him Shirayim and whispered to him the secret of giving Shirayim. (See Letters of the

Rebbe, volume 2, pg. 324 and footnotes)

Shabbos Chazon

Reb Hillel of Paritch would say in the name of R. Levi Yitzchak of Berditchev: "Chazon" means vision; on Shabbos Chazon, Hashem shows every Jew a vision of the Third Bais Hamikdosh". "...Appropriate with the end of the Haftarah of Shabbos Chazon, "Tzion in justice will be redeemed and it’s returning with righteousness" (Yishayahu 1:27): Justice, 'Mishpat', is Torah and righteousness, 'Tzedakah', is all of the Mitzvas, which includes the Mitzvah of Tzedakah, we should, in these days add in the study of Torah and doing Mitzvas, especially the Mitzvah of Tzedakah." (Sicha, Shabbos Chazon, Av 9, 5751a)

The Rebbe would hold a Farbrengen on this Shabbos and advised that Farbrengens spreading Simcha with Ahavas Yisroel should be held on this Shabbos.

Erev Shabbos those who’s custom to shower and go to the Mikvah on Erev Shabbos may do so. We wear Shabbos clothes like every Shabbos and observe no custom of mourning on Shabbos in public.

On Shabbos Chazon, The Rebbe encouraged us to do our daily shiurim of Chitas & Rambam before Midday 1:01pm Crown Heights. (If one is running late, it may be finished any time before sunset. We do not say Pirkei Avos after Mincha. Of course, one may learn the Sichos and Maamorim of those years when the 8th or 9th of Av fell out on Shabbos Chazon. Then you can learn only the parts that deal with the destruction of the Bais Hamikdash, or mourning:  Megilas Eichah and its commentaries, laws of Tishah B’Av and Mourning in Shulchan Aruch, the tragic parts or Yirmiyahu and the third chapter of Moed Katan, etc.

We can eat meat or drink wine until sunset; at sunset, 8:09pm we stop ALL eating.

On Motzaei Shabbos we must say "Baruch Hamavdil Bein Kodesh L'Chol" before we change our leather shoes, we don't say Havdalah except the Bracha "Borei Meorei Haeish

The Rebbe would demand that we should be B’Simcha; it is the day that Moshiach was born and his Mazal Shines for all of us.

These days are an auspicious time to increase giving Tzedakah.

As summer draws near and the year winds down, we kindly remind everyone who has made pledges to BLYS throughout the year—whether during the month of Tishrei, for Aliyah’s, Yizkor, Farbrengen, Kiddushim, Birthdays, Yahrzeit, or other occasions—to please fulfill your commitments.

Shabbos Rosh Chodesh Menachem Av

Yahrtzeit of Aharon Ha’Kohen, 2489 [1312 BCE], the only Yahrtzeit recorded in the Torah (BaMidbar 33:38) (in Parshas Masei, read every year on the Shabbos of the week of his Yahrtzeit).

Wednesday 5th of Menachem Av

Yahrtzeit of R. Yitzchak Luria, the Ari Zal, 5332 [1572]. He passed away at thirty-eight, in Tzefas. " . . . All Israel accepted him as the final Posek

In all matters of the hidden parts of the Torah and its secrets, there is no room for argument, and the Halachah is as the words of the Ari Zal."

Nine days

The Rebbe urged that the Three Weeks should be a time of increased giving of charity and Torah study (in keeping with the verse (Isaiah 1:27), "Zion shall be redeemed by law, and her returnees by charity"), particularly the study of those portions of Torah that deal with the laws and the deeper significance of the Holy Temple.

During the “Nine Days," which start on Shabbos Rosh Chodesh the 1st of Menachem Av and end on the Ninth of Menachem Av, we mourn the destruction of the Holy Temple. We abstain from meat and wine, music, haircutting, bathing for pleasure, and other joyous & dangerous activities. (For more information, consult a competent halachic authority for details.)

Consumption of meat and wine is permitted on Shabbos or at a Seudas mitzvah such as a bris (circumcision), or a Siyum celebrating the completion of a course of Torah study (i.e., a complete Talmudic tractate). The Rebbe initiated the custom of conducting or participating in a Siyum on each of the Nine Days (even if one does not eat meat).

We should all merit the final redemption when these days are transformed into Gladness, rejoicing, and festivals. Amen Now.

Tammuz, the month of redemption, especially the days between

3rd of Tammuz and 12th & 13th of Tammuz.

Tuesday and Wednesday, 12th & 13Th of Tammuz, we do not say Tachnun.

Tuesday 12th Tammuz

Birthday of the Previous Lubavitcher Rebbe, R. Yosef Yitzchak, 5640 (1880).

The Previous Lubavitcher Rebbe was told he was free from exile in Kostroma, 5687 (1927). That day he said the Maamar, "HaShem Is in My Assistance", [printed in Sefer Hamaamarim, Kuntreisim, p. 179]

Wednesday 13th Tammuz

The previous Lubavitcher Rebbe received his release papers, 5687 (1927). That evening he said the Maamar, "Blessed Is He Who Has Done Kindness", [printed in Sefer Hamaamarim, Kuntreisim, p. 183]

Directives from the Rebbe for the month of Tammuz

1. From Gimel Tammuz on, we must utilize every day leading up to Yud Beis

Tammuz in spreading the wellsprings of Chassidus to all.

2. We must strengthen ourselves through farbrengens for men, women, and

children (it is understood that the farbrengens for men and women should be

separate).

3. We should publicly learn the Maamar of “Asarah Sheyoshvim” “Ten people that sit and learn Torah…” which the Frierdiker Rebbe gave out in honor of the first celebration of Yud Beis Tammuz. (If you cannot learn it publicly i.e., ten people, each person should learn it by themselves.)

4. We should make farbrengens on Yud Beis and Yud Gimel Tammuz, and

continue through the fifteenth of Tammuz.

5. During the Three Weeks, we should add in learning Torah and giving

Tzedakah, especially Shabbos, we must add in Torah learning.

6. We should learn about the building of the Beis Hamikdash from Sefer

Yechezkel (from Chapter 40 on), from the Mishnayos of Midos, and Rambam - Laws of Beis Hamikdash, also as it’s explained in Chassidus.

7. Small children in camps and day camps should also learn the laws of the

Beis Hamikdash.

8. We must increase in all our activities of Mivtzoim during the summer, for men, women, and children. We have to see that every boy and girl should not miss anything from their learning during the summer.

9. We should make sure that children go to a frum Jewish camp.

10. The counselors have a special mission; they must teach the children what it means to make Bracha, what it means to say Shema before we go to sleep

etc. We should not push the teaching off and say “I’ll do it tomorrow, what’s

the rush to teach them today.”

11. We must utilize every moment of the summer to bring the Geulah.

Pledges

As summer draws near and the year winds down, we kindly remind everyone who has made pledges to BLYS throughout the year—whether during the month of Tishrei, for Aliyah’s, Yizkor, Farbrengen, Kiddushim, Birthdays, Yahrzeit, or other occasions—to please fulfill your commitments.

Bais Levi Yitzchak Shul relies entirely on your donations to meet our expenses and remain financially stable. Your continued generosity is essential to our community. Thank you for your support!

Shabbos Erev Gimmel Tammuz

“Every one of us must know--that is, dwell upon and implant the awareness in his or her mind--that the Rebbe is our Nassi and head: that he is the source and channel for all our material and spiritual needs, and that it is through our bond with him (and he has already instructed us in his letters how and by what means this is achieved) that we are bound and united with our source, and the source of our source, up to our ultimate source on high”.

Rebbe’s letter 3rd Tammuz 5710

It is explained in Inyan HaHishtat’chus

“even as to those who did not know or recognize [the tzaddik] during his actual lifetime but only studied the holy books that he left over as a blessing, and who bask in the radiance of his Torah teachings and are thereby invigorated in their service of G-d,… it is certain that they too are called his disciples,… for they believe in that tzaddik and from him they receive the light of his Torah teachings;… the branches are drawn back to their roots.”

May we be privileged to see and meet with the Rebbe here in this world, in a physical body, in this earthly domain -- and he will redeem us.

(Basi LeGani 5751-1951)

The Previous Lubavitcher Rebbe left Spalerno prison for Kostroma after his death sentence was commuted, 5687 (1927).   "...The Rebbe (the Previous Lubavitcher Rebbe) at the train station, standing on the train at the time of his farewell blessings, turned to the crowd who came to accompany him and said: '....Not by our will were we exiled from the land of Israel and not by our efforts will we return… nevertheless, all nations must know: our bodies alone have been handed into exile to be ruled, but not our souls... about everything involving our religion, the Torah of the people of Israel, its commandments and customs...no force has the right to subjugate us" [Sefer Ha-Maamorim Kuntreisim I, p. 350]

When you study my Maamorim of Chasiddus, read the Sichos, associate with those dear to me - the Chassidic community and the Temimim - in their studies and Farbrengen, and you fulfill my request by reciting Tehilim and maintaining a regular study schedule, - this is what constitutes being connected - Hiskashrus”,

The importance of saying Tehilim.

Hayom Yom 24, Shevat:  If you only knew -   The Tzemach Tzedek said –The power of verses of Tehilim and their effect in the highest Heavens, you would recite them constantly. Know that the chapters of Tehilim shatter all barriers; they ascend higher and still higher with no interference; they prostrate themselves in supplication before the Master of all worlds, and They affect and accomplish with kindness and compassion.

Hayom Yom 25, Shevat: Studying a Parsha of Chumash with Rashi every day (Sunday until Shaini, Monday until Shlishi, etc.), saying Tehilim every day and the entire Tehilim on Shabbat Mevorchim - be scrupulous about all of these. It is crucial for you, your children, and your children's children.

Hayom Yom 24th Iyar; With the advent of Mashiach, there will be revealed the superior quality of the traits of simplicity and wholeheartedness found in the avoda of simple folk who daven and recite Tehillim with simple sincerity.

Tuesday 28th Sivan

This year 84th year since the Rebbe and Rebbetzin reached America, escaping European occupation, 5701 [1941]. At 10:30 AM, several of the elder Chasidim met the SS Surpa Pinta at New York Harbor. The previous Lubavitcher Rebbe told them, "I appoint you as my representatives to greet my son-in-law. Let me tell you who he is: He says Tikun Chatzos every night. He is an expert in and knows by heart the Talmud Bavli, as well as being proficient in the RaN, RoSh, and RiF. He is an expert in the Talmud Yerushalmi, the Rambam, and in Likutei Torah with all the Tzemach Tzedek's references. “Go and greet him." . . . On this day began a new initiative in strengthening and spreading Torah and Yiddishkeit and Chassidus, by my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe, in founding the central institutions, Machne Yisroel, Kehot, and Merkos L'inyonei Chinuch". Special Announcements:

Today the 3rd, G-d instructed Moses to "set boundaries for the people around, saying, 'Beware of ascending the mountain or touching its edge...'" (Exodus 19:10-12) in preparation for the Giving of the Torah on Mount Sinai three days later. To this day, we mark the "Three Days of Hagbalah ('Boundaries')" leading to the Giving of the Torah on the 6th of Sivan.

As we are preparing ourselves for receiving the Torah, we must continue with the theme of Ahavas Yisroel, just like when we arrived at the foot of the mountain. On the 1st of Sivan of the year 2448 from creation (1313 BCE), six weeks after their exodus from Egypt, the Children of Israel arrived at Mount Sinai in the Sinai Desert and camped at the foot of the mountain "as one man, with one heart" in preparation for the receiving of the Torah from G-d. On this day, however, "Moshe did not say anything to them, because of their

exhaustion from the journey."

Hayom Yom 3, Sivan: Haircutting during the Three Days of Preparation, before Erev Shavuot, was displeasing to my father. Whoever ponders the approach of Tosafot in his comment beginning "Torah etc..." (Shabbat 89a) will understand that the festival of Shavuot is an auspicious time Above. On that day G‑d confounds the "supernal accuser" of Israel, similar to His confounding the accuser during Shofar-sounding on Rosh Hashana and on the holy day of the Fast of Yom Kippur.

Hayom Yom 4, Sivan: Shavuot is an opportune time to achieve everything in improving Torah-study and avoda marked by fear (awe) of G‑d, and also to strive in teshuva concerning Torah-study, without interference by the accusing Satan - just like the time of Shofar-sounding on Rosh Hashana and the holy day of the Fast of Yom Kippur.

Special Announcements:

It is not too late to participate in this Shabbos Kiddush / Farbrengen honoring Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai on this auspicious day of Lag Ba’Omer.

Friday 18th of Iyar - Lag Ba’Omer

We do not say Tachnun.

Students of R. Akiva stopped dying.

Yahrzeit of R. Shimon Bar Yochai. " . . . There is a custom to eat carob, because R. Shimon Bar Yochai, hiding from the Romans in a cave for thirteen years, survived on carobs from a tree outside the cave" [Sicha, Rosh Chodesh Iyar, 5742] ".

כּדאי הוא רבּי שׁמעון לסמוך עליו בּשׁעת הדחק

“Rabbi Shimon is worthy to rely upon in challenging circumstances.”

Now more than ever, in his merit we should have the Geula Now.

Zohar relates:

It once happened that the world needed rain...so they came to Rabbi Shimon...he recited the verse: "A song of ascents ...Behold, how good and how pleasant it is when brothers dwell together" (Tehilim 133:1).

As a result, the rain began to fall. (Zohar III, 59b) Was not the Rashbi hinting that harmonious, brotherly love and Jewish unity serve as the harbinger of material blessings from G-d?

Baal Shem Tov

explains that the term, rain "gishmeichem"--rain has the same root as "gashmius" -- corporeality. Thus, all physical blessings are dependent on the unity and harmony of the Jewish people.

How can we actually and practically express and reveal our Ahavas Yisroel and Jewish unity? The answer is: when Jews gather in one place "as one man with one mind," with the goal and purpose of encouraging and strengthening their harmony and -- especially increasing Jewish unity and Ahavas Yisroel; and when such a gathering is held in conjunction with a festive meal, including the toasting of "L’Chaim" on wine, this increases Jewish Unity, as the Gemara says: Great is the mouthful (of food or drink) in that it draws near those who are distant. (Sanhedrin 103b)

Mitteler Rebbe

It is known that Lag Ba'Omer was one of the Mitteler Rebbe's particularly noteworthy festivals. He and the Chassidim would go out to the fields that day, and although he did not wash and break bread, he did partake of mashkeh (strong drink), which he was not allowed to do for health reasons. Many wonders were seen at that time, most of them involving the blessing of children for childless couples, and all year long, people waited for Lag Ba'Omer.

Shabbos 19th Iyar

Yahrzeit of the Renowned Talmudist Rabbi Meir ("Maharam") of Rothenburg (1215? -1293) died in his cell in the Ensisheim fortress, where he was imprisoned for ten years in an attempt to exact a huge ransom from the Jewish community. The money was raised, but Rabbi Meir refused to have himself redeemed, lest this encourage the hostage taking of other Jewish leaders.

Gimmel Tammuz

As preparation for the auspicious & holy day of Gimmel Tammuz. Every single one must ask themselves and think deeply about what they can do to strengthen their connection with the Rebbe. (See Hayom Yom 24th Sivan)

"You ask how you can be bound (M’Kusher) to me when I do not know you personally..."

"...The true bond is created by studying Torah. When you study my Maamorim of Chassidus, read the Sichos, associate with those dear to me - the Chassidic community and the Temimim - in their studies and Farbrengen, and you fulfill my request by reciting Tehilim and maintaining a regular study schedule - this is what constitutes being connected - Hiskashrus”,

Sunday 13th of Iyar

Yahrzeit of R. Yisroel Aryeh Leib Schneersohn, of blessed memory, brother of the Rebbe, passed away in 5712 -1952. He is buried in Tzefas

Monday 14th of Iyar - Pesach Sheini

We do not say Tachnun. We eat Matzah to commemorate Pesach Sheini.

Pesach Sheini was the last day the Jews ate the Matzos they took out of Mitzrayim, which had in them the taste of the Mon, 2488 [1313 BCE] (Rashi, Shemos 16:35) and thus, another reason for the custom of eating Matzah. [Siddur of R. Yaakov Emden].

"The theme of Pesach Sheni is that it's never too late. It is always possible to put things right. Even if one was impure or far away, and even when the impurity was deliberate, nonetheless, he can correct it".

[HaYom Yom, Iyar 14]

Friday 18th of Iyar - Lag Ba’Omer

We do not say Tachnun. The students of R. Akiva stopped dying.

Yahrzeit of R. Shimon Bar Yochai. " . . . There is a custom to eat carob, because R. Shimon Bar Yochai, hiding from the Romans in a cave for thirteen years, survived on carobs from a tree outside the cave" [Sicha, Rosh Chodesh Iyar, 5742] " . . .

(Zohar III, 59b) Was not the Rashbi hinting that harmonious, brotherly love and Jewish unity serve as the harbinger of material blessings from G-d!

Baal Shem Tov

Explains that the term rain "gishmeichem"--rain has the same root as "gashmius" -- corporeality.

Many wonders were seen at that time, most of them involving the blessing of children for childless couples - and all year long people waited for Lag Ba'Omer.

Iyar

Is a month of healing the Chassidic masters see this in the month’s acronym: אני יי רופאך, “I am the L‑d who heals you.”

Iyar represents the return to work - mundaneness— after the month of Nissan / Pesach. At this point, it becomes difficult to infuse our Torah-learning and mitzvah-doing with the excitement of novelty.

This is where healing comes in. G‑d says, “All the sicknesses . . . I will not place upon you, for I am the L‑d who heals you.” In other words, G‑d is giving us preventative medicine—the ability to fight apathy and to experience our divine service with passion and excitement. But although G‑d assists we must do the legwork. If we make the effort to view the world through the eyes of a child, with openness and curiosity, we can keep the forces of apathy at bay.

Iyar Recalls the Patriarchs

The accepted custom is to spell it with two yuds, serving as an acrostic for Abraham, Isaac (Yitzchak), Jacob (Yaakov), and Rachel, the patriarchs, and matriarch associated with the supernal merkavah, a Kabbalistic understanding of the divine revelation in this world.

Bais Iyar

Birthday of our holy Master and Teacher R. Shmuel, "The Rebbe MaHaRaSh", fourth Chabad Rebbe, on Tiferes SheB’Tiferes of the Omer, 5593 [1833]. “...His life and work are best summarized by his saying, “The world says if you can’t go under an obstacle, you have to go over, and I say —go over in the first place.” The simple meaning of this is that in Torah and Mitzvahs we have to “go over in the first place”: not make calculations, and when that’s not enough, you have to go above measure and limit, you go “over” —the Rebbe MaHaRaSh said, “go over in the first place”, in a way that’s above calculations and limits.” [Sicha, Tishrei 13, 5739].

This Shabbos is eight weeks before the auspicious & holy day of Gimmel Tammuz. Every single one must ask ourselves and think deeply what I can do to strengthen my connection with the Rebbe

(See Hayom Yom 24th Sivan)

"You ask how you can be bound (M’Kusher) to me when I do not know you personally..."

"...The true bond is created by studying Torah. When you study my Maamorim of Chassidus, read the Sichos, associate with those dear to me - the Chassidic community and the Temimim - in their studies and Farbrengen, and you fulfill my request by reciting Tehilim and maintaining a regular study schedule, - this is what constitutes being connected - Hiskashrus”,

Special Announcements:

It is thirty-four years since the Rebbe issued an emotional call on the eve of 28th of Nissan, 5751 (April 11, 1991) to his followers, and to the world Jewish community, to increase their efforts to bring Moshiach and the ultimate redemption. Spoken in an anguished voice and couched in uncharacteristically personal terms, the Rebbe's words deeply shocked the Chassidim present in the Rebbe's synagogue and reverberated worldwide.

"How is it that the Redemption has not yet been attained?" the Rebbe cried. “That despite all that has transpired and all that has been done, Moshiach has still not come? What more can I do? I have done all I can to bring the world to truly demand and clamor for Redemption...The only thing that remains for me to do is to give over the matter to you. Do all that is in your power to achieve this thing--a most sublime and transcendent light that needs to be brought down into our world with pragmatic tools... I have done all I can. I give it over to you. Do all that you can to bring the righteous redeemer, immediately! I have done my part. From this point on, all is in your hands..."

We start learning Pirkei Avos Shabbos after Mincha. We say a Perek a week, between Pesach and Shavuos (and throughout the Summer)

Upon the latter's passing in 1772, R. Menachem Mendel was regarded by his colleagues as the leader of the Chassidic community in Russia, and Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi considered him his rebbe and mentor. In 1777, R. Menachem Mendel led a group of 300 Chassidim to the Holy Land and established Chassidic communities in Safed and Teberias. Rabbi Menachem Mendel passed away on the 1st of Iyar of 1788 and is buried in Tiberias.

They were among the first adherents of the Chassidic movement to hold rabbinic posts in Germany. Many Chassidic leaders of the next generation were his disciples.

His father, Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Lubavitch (the 3rd Chabad Rebbe, known as the "Tzemach Tzeddek") once remarked that Rabbi Shmuel's birthday, coinciding with the 17th day of the Omer Count, is defined by the Kabbalistic masters as Tifferet sheb'Tifferet ("Beauty of Beauty")

The Rebbe’s birthday Yud Aleph Nissan

It is not merely a personal event affecting him alone; on the contrary, the very name Rebbe is an acronym for the Hebrew words, “head of the Jewish people.” The head contains the nerve center for the entire body, allowing all its diverse organs and limbs to function together as a single whole. Similarly, a Rebbe is a comprehensive soul whose life is lived in the consciousness of others and whose efforts are devoted to tightening the connection between them. As such, the Rebbe’s birthday leader of our generation is a day that affects us all.

In honor & merit of strengthening our connection to the Rebbe, everyone should be blessed in an abundance of blessings, of health, wealth, happiness, joy, children, and Shiduchim, and if in need of a miracle, especially in the month of miracles, miracles should happen.
